| This is how a brand-new Kenwood TR-2500 looked many years ago.
Mine is a lot more shop-worn ... particularly the tiny LCD screen. To bring this
one back to life required a new coin-cell memory battery (retains the
programming memory when the radio is shut off or the battery pack dies). The
original calls for a xxx with soldered on tabs. Since that was no longer
available, or at least I couldn't track one down, I replaced it with a xxx from
Digikey. This necessitated soldering tabs to the battery, but it worked out just
fine.
Next the NiCad pack would not charge above 1.4V (8.4V is fully charged on this radio), so I got a lithium-ion replacement pack from xxx which also increased the capacity to xxx mah. Not much can be done about the LCD, mine is dark in the corners (I don't recall that being the case when it was stored away, but it could be impact damage or moisture creep), although it doesn't really hide and pertinent information displays. This radio's biggest defect is the lack of a CTCSS option board, its sheer bulk and weight, and the tiny display. I think I will use it as an emergency spare.
